aminaParticipantHi Guys,
So here’s another question from me after studying about abdominal migraines at uni. Symptoms of this include severe abdominal pain with nausea, vomiting, pallor and inability to eat in some cases. At the moment there is no known physical cause for abdominal migraines, all that is known is that it is more often than not associated with the same stress triggers as head migraines, but no one knows why this pain occurs in the abdomen.
Your thoughts?

Gabrielle1980ParticipantI think this kind of thing will depend on pulse diagnosis. It’s too general.
It’s like any illness. It stems from a different reason from each person.
So a flu can occur from a different reason in 3 different people. That’s the eastern medicine view on it. At least the daoist one we practice.

aminaParticipantoh I see. that’s a shame, i was hoping for some theories behind this weird phenomenon. especially after finding out its most common in children!
but i guess it is a very broad symptom, probably with lots of different possible root causes. thanks anyways! 😀26th October 2015 at 1:28 am #470
ZKeymasterwell you started off saying a very general thing, but now you just said more specifically in children, those are very different questions although still require more diagnosis.
Children having abdominal pains can be anywhere from something serious like an organ pain, or just gas and bloating from eating too fast (as kids sometimes do these days, hence it is so common, because the same parents also do that too!).
So it is difficult, in both eastern and western medicine to talk more about why something happens for something like this – but i hope the above is more helpful.

HenryParticipanti would say most kids dont even know how to eat properly, so they probably eat too much of something, like sweets, or just bad eating habits of any kind, can result in a statistic of high level of stomach migraines. my two cents anyway.

aminaParticipantyes, sorry Z, i only found out after i posted initially that its more common in children. but its not anything like gas and bloating pain or anything which can be easily diagnosed as a different disease like gallstones, or appendicitis. this is specifically stress triggered as I mentioned. and it even comes with or predisposes to head migraines later in life. I was just perplexed by the location of it since no one knows why it happens there, as no physical cause can be found.
but yeah, i guess it could also be food related as you say, Henry.. even normal migraines can be triggered by certain foods.

MarkParticipantwell stress has a direct impact on the stomach and vice versa. That’s also in most acupuncture books about how this is linked very closely. If the stomach is not well, the mind isn’t clear. If the mind is not well, the stomach isn’t well either.
