    Hi guys,

Today, I met a few patients in hospital who had suffered from a stroke and subsequent motor or sensory loss. I was wondering what role acupuncture or other TCM techiques can play in the rehabilitation of these patients, and what exactly is the effect? For example, if there is ischaemic/ dead tissue in the brain from a stroke, would the treatment focus on regenerating new tissue or healing old tissue or is there any other way of dealing with the deficits?

It would also be interesting if there was something anyone would recommend as helping prevent clots in the blood that cause stroke?

    thanks in advance as always!

Yes a combination of herbs that break down artery plaque will be used alongside treatment to help the flow of energy. If the person is in a comma than moxibustion is usually the only way to help the patient; and requires someone knowledgeable in daoist moxibustion methods, using a special type of moxa (not just any) to help regenerate the system.

I didn’t seem to have email notifications on for this thread! didn’t realise someone had replied.

that’s really interesting to know thank you! i guess since such a specific method and by someone knowledgeable is required, any idea for where patients may be able to best find a TCM clinician like this?

i knew someone who got acupuncture for neuropathic pain they had after their stroke, and it actually helped really well so it definitely is useful in that situation imo
