Just wondering direct or indirect moxa can be used on inflamed areas. Or is this not a good idea? such as a injury to an ankle or something.

Possible, but not advised by many.

You are better off taking a painkiller to help inflammation stop, and also take ice pack or heat back (depending on what feels better).

Usually ice pack for swollen hot inflamed area, and usually heat pack for the day after, when heat is gone. it usually feels better when applied, so you will know what one to use.

This is the best treatment method I know of.

I agree with the above commenter on ice and heat packs being better.

it’s not the best idea to use moxa on a swelling like that in my opinion.

if there is a nerve problem, then you can use it, but very thin cones, or indirect.

Wallis is correct, you can, but ideally you should do what amina said above, relating to ice pack and heat pack for improving, and yes, in these cases, western medicine is better, taking a painkiller.
