karrotcakeParticipantI was just checking out the guardian website and I often came across articles like these: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/may/30/acupuncture-pain-relief-adenosine-mice
It feels like the whole approach modern medicine even has of medicine is purely based on mechanical medicine, nothing deeper. I know there is already a thread kind of bashing them for this, but it is a real problem.
How can we change this approach/perspective, so as to open paths of communication between healthcare professionals?
The closest thing I’ve found to it is that 2min explanation of how acupuncture works on the other thread (http://acupunctureforum.org/forums/topic/very-good-explanation-of-acupuncture/)but there needs to be more of these kind of explanations which bridge the purely intellectual mechanical approach to the more subtler dimensions of health.Any ideas?

HenryParticipantThere will always be people who don’t understand or who simply don’t want to understand.
The best we can do is constantly develop ways to communicate and do it professionally rather than bash eachother as both medical systems have their benefits.
I think acupuncture in england is misunderstood even the practitioners so no point even trying to educate the ignorant when practitioners are also misleading. Many think of acupuncture as a ‘press here for this benefit’ kind of thing.

Anna KParticipantI have also noticed a hint of arrogance whenever it comes to alternative medicine, but one thing that can be done is to increase the standard of acupuncture, so that not any Tom, Dick or Harry can obtain a license. This includes current healthcare professionals. If the quality is better, results would be better and then it will also be more respected.

ZKeymasterhaha i like that cartoon – but next time try to add an image instead of linking to the image, as it makes it easy – i will try to add this for you, it keeps content quality up.

Gabrielle1980ParticipantHaha that’s hilarious!
I know some people that think that way. And weirdly even some acupuncture books say acupuncture was formed thro trail and error, makes no sense to me.

Anna KParticipant>.< I hate to say it but I actually thought it started off like that when I first started reading an acupuncture book. They said that when they fought wars with spears, some people had their disease cured from it!!
It’s like “oh, you just healed my gout by poking that spear here!” -
