new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. just started studying acupuncture and finding it hard to remember the acupuncture points and locations. is there a fast way anyone discovered to remember the point locations and names at the same time?

To memeorise the point names and abbrv I use my memorisation technique for anything else and it works well for me.

    1. Simply go by meridian one at a time and write each point out.
    2. Cover up, write them down from memory this time
    3. If you don’t get them all right, repeat from step 1
    4. When you get them all right, then repeat once more.

This sounds like a long laborious task but it isn’t really, it takes about 10-15min.

If you do it thoroughly a few times, it begins to stick. Do it at least once a day for each meridian and with each time it is consolidated deeper into your memory. Once you have done it a few times, you can just practise mentally when you remember to do it.

Point locations I haven’t quite figured out though, but I think clinical experience definitely helps for that kind of thing.

some people just record their voices saying the points and thats how they learn. but i find that adding a story or meaning to each point makes it easier to remember.

i think going to classes regularly helps a lot.. as you get familiar with the points and what they mean and what they are for

yeah i agree with getting that exposure in class to the points and constantly locating it in class helps a lot with remembering them. we don’t use all the points anyway, but its important to know them once at least.
